LASIK Surgery
LASIK (laser in-situ keratomileusis) is the most popular refractive surgery performed in America today. Its effectiveness and accessibility have made it an easy choice to make, especially for those looking for freedom from eyeglasses and contact lenses. At Hirshfield Eye Center, we are proud to serve the Queens area with many different vision correction options, which means providing the best in LASIK care.
LASIK is a quick, easy and painless procedure done in one of our Queens locations. It is important to remember that not everyone is a LASIK candidate, but there are LASIK alternatives also available in our Queens offices. Dr. Hirshfield of Hirshfield Eye Center will work with you to determine whether or not LASIK surgery is a good fit for you.
On the day of your LASIK surgery, you should arrange for someone to drive you hame afterwards. Dr. Hirshfield will give you a mild sedative and some anesthetic eye drops to numb your eye. He will then use a femtosecond laser to create a "flap" on the surface of your cornea. This corneal flap will then be peeled back, and an excimer laser will be used to reshape the surface of your cornea. By reshaping the cornea, Dr. Hirshfield is helping the cornea to focus light correctly on the retina, reducing blurry vision. The corneal flap is replaced, and the surgery is concluded, usually in less than 30 minutes. The flap acts as a natural bandage, requiring no stitches.
Your eyes will be light sensitive after surgery, and will be dry although they may not feel like they are. Dr. Hirshfield will prescribe you some eye drops to lubricate your eyes, as well as prevent infection and inflammation. Your vision will be blurry for the first few days after surgery, and should improve quickly. Dr. Hirshfield will have a follow-up appointment with you 1-2 days after surgery, and then in regular intervals for six months after surgery.
Our goal is to make out patients feel comfortable in our office and during surgery. If you have any questions, concerns, or would like to book an appointment with us today, please give us a call. We look forward to helping you achieve your best vision!
